DIWALI- A FESTIVAL OF SELF-REALISATION Diwali, the festival of lights, love and happiness is once again being celebrated with great vigour and devotion. A national favorite, this festival is filled with sweets, meet and greet, and traditions.  Mythology says, in the honour of Rama’s home arrival, the people of Ayodhya decorated the kingdom with Diyas. Symbolically, Diyas were lit to dispel the darkness of gloom, inequality and despair because Rama, the flag bearer of truth, hope and love had arrived. Although this practice of diya lighting is still prevalent, but somehow, the deep meaning is lost somewhere. Materialistic attitudes and extravagant celebrations have taken over the nobility of the occasion. Diwali is an occasion to reflect upon ourselves and acknowledge the positivity within. Most people today look at their reflection and scowl. A smile can do wonders for our face, and genuine happiness can do wonders for our soul. And, it's not difficult to find. It i
PURPLE COW By SETH GODIN Author: Seth Godin Publisher: Portfolio Date of Publication: May 2003 Number of Pages: 160 pages PURPLE COW “Transform your Business by Being Remarkable” How challenging is it to get your idea to spread and How can you do it successfully? When was the last time you noticed a cow on the side of the road, pulled over and looked at it really close? How boring! What if it was a purple coloured cow? We wouldn’t pull the brakes fast enough! A Purple Cow means something that would really stand out, something shining out of the crowd. How did the Four Seasons or Walmart become famous? How have Nokia or Nintendo been selling and marketing the same product for so many years? The reason that these products are still selling is because they needed something precisely remarkable. A leader of a famous company is indeed a leader, precisely because he/she did something remarkable. That remarkable thing is now taken, so it’s no longer remarkable when you decide to do it. R

SUPREME COURTS VERDICTS – For better or the worse? ~By Ana S. Thomas Change is perhaps the only constant in life, and it is required in order to have a more progressive and inclusive approach towards life. India, a country that we are proud to be a part of, made each one of us prouder by embracing change, in accordance with the recent Supreme Court judgements. This month cannot be forgotten easily, and has truly been very notable for the Indian Judiciary. Sabarimala Verdict Why women couldn’t enter a temple for so long is something that irks and bemuses me at the same time. Menstruation is a natural cycle in the body of every woman, and I certainly do not think that it can be the bar to allow or not allow them entry into a temple. This verdict comes as a major victory for all those who believe in equal rights for both the sexes. Now finally, the SC brought an end to this archaic law by allowing women between ages 10 to 50 to enter the temple. But do women really wa
Gandhi Jayanti “Live as if you were to die tomorrow and learn as if you were to live forever” Happiest wishes to the Soul and Strength of this tricolour nation, to the man leaving a trail behind each walk . To the stories unheard and plights silenced to the pain and the torture of cutting this peninsula 71 years back was wisdom and skill of this Man turning 149 years, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.    A journey so simply started with those tiny innocent steps never knew the journey to the face of the currency today. 149 years of  stopping the guns from firing and the swords from bleeding , the mantra Of non Violence took its mantic spell over our nation from this great leader, hence 2 October is marked as the International day of Non Violence by the UNITED NATIONS. His life is a journey from simplicity, humility, wisdom, cleanliness, nonviolence, literacy, empowerment  and deeds never ending to this and the future generations. We, the proud citizens on this fine day just
DREAM CHASE What I want to become of me? Asked a colleen, a curious soul Wondering about the mysteries, this world beholds. The vast mélange, she couldn’t comprehend The enormous beauty that seemed to descend Everyone went about their lives Yet no one seemed to enjoy The craziness, the scare The happiness, the despair The only thing that mattered Was getting "there" In a fast-paced world, through and through Where one didn’t even know himself Was it really worth to pull through Enquired the woman of herself. There are so many ideals About what I should do But no real desire To drive you What good does it do, to be a soul- lost and alone On such a beautiful sphere, with mysteries galore. However there is hope, for the ones who dare To break the rules, and fiercely stare Into the world’s eyes and declare That their existence is not bare.  DU:The Fresher Story Getting admission to a DU college seems like crossing the finish line of a race that has not yet begun. Well, after cutting through the steeper than Mt Everest cutoffs, why would it not be? Between the rejoice and relief, comes the first day of college. We walk past those gates with an air of expectation, independence and nervousness around us. Instead of students high on the cool quotient,we see puzzled students trying to find their way and probably, trying to find themselves.(Myth 1:Busted) After a few days in college,it dawns upon us that college is NOT equivalent to absolute chill and there is serious study going on.(Myth 2:Busted) While exploring the whereabouts of our college,we discover a phenomenon called Assignments & Tests which require regular study, just when we thought we were on a vacation from the arduous board examination period.(Myth 3:Busted) While on the myth busting ride,we experienced stuff, far better and beyond our expectations

DEVALUATION OF RUPEE

The Rupee has tumbled by almost 13% against the US dollar in 2018 and it still stands on weak grounds. It was weighed down by the global rise in crude oil prices as India imports nearly 80 per cent of its fuel needs. Moreover, the US dollar has been performing quite well because of the rapid economic growth which further creates trouble for the currency. On Wednesday, September 12, the rupee scaled down to as low as 72.92 against the US dollar which makes it one of Asia’s worst performing currencies.  The effects of this is a widening current account deficit due to rising import bills.  The already weak jewellery sector is expected to be hit harder. The depreciating rupee also effects the economy as it has the power to increase domestic inflation and the already high crude oil prices will escalate even more. The short term solution to this is intervention by RBI. However, in the long run the best way to protect the currency from external shocks is by redu cing dependenc

AMAZON – An Amazing Testimony of Record Breaking Success

Apple, Amazon, Walmart, Microsoft, etc. are today amongst those companies, whose success we read about and whose quality & service, we enjoy and trust considerably. We talk about the acme of success that they have reached today, but what we often forget is that their founders too, started with a small dream and an undefeatable passion, like many entrepreneurs; and today it is indeed their hardwork, that has brought them so far. Bringing our focus down to Apple & Amazon, coz very recently, on the 5 th of September 2018, Amazon joined Apple to achieve the $1 trillion market value, for a brief period of time. As the tech giant diversifies into various new fields, and gets an even stronger presence than it already has in the market, many analysts predict that Amazon is right on tra

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN COACHES - INDIAN ASIAD SEASON 2018

“Sports do not build characters but reveals it”, with these great   words of inspiration and motivation by Heywood Broun ,The league for Asian Games 2018 began in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia on 18 August with the most prominent 45 participant countries of the world. With an entangled view of Asian games they would appear to be the most important platform where women have marvelously showcased in true spirits their courage, skills and passion for pursuance of a noble place in the controversial patriarchal societies .This scenario is just not only valid for India but for other countries as well. On a finger count these are Japan,Iran and China. Talking with reference to Indian context,This Asian season proved to be a dynamic year that absolutely changed the lop-sided sports spirit of some into national team spirit of many, that moved the players to succeed and attain a total toll of 65 medals in hand. The Indian athletes be it Jinson Johnson or Hina Das, have been g

THE BRIGHTER VIBGYOR

The rainbow smiled happier than ever on the 6th September'18, when The Supreme Court of India, in a landmark judgement of a five-member SC bench along with the Chief Justice Of India declared DECRIMINALIZATION of  GAY SEX In Private.   Cries and pleas faded as memories and feelings were given a platform to let Off......The Feeling of HOMOSEXUALITY. Every trauma of harassment, torture was set free when Section 377 of the INDIAN PENAL CODE was considered null. The day resonated a sun rise of a new era of love when the apex court read down 158-years old colonial law. They believe this as a step for the Equality On which fingers were raised . The tag we gave them with ease LGBTQ...are relieved more than rejoicing as the act of Sexual Interaction was a 10 year imprisonment till 6 September 2018...hence it's not a cry for Victory but a call for Humanity. We dare not call them abnormal, they are different just as Our Fingers.... Likely said,"If you d

NAFTA – EXIST OR COLLAPSE?

NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), a  treaty between Canada, Mexico and the United States, being the world’s largest trade agreement, it’s main purpose is   to reduce trading costs, increase business investments and help North America be more competitive in the global market place which was done by removing the trade barriers between the three signatory countries. NAFTA has favoured all the three co-signers by eliminating tariffs on imports and exports between the three countries .   It created specific rules to regulate trade in farm products, automobiles and clothing. These also apply to some services, such as telecommunications and finance. It also established procedures to resolve trade disputes. NAFTA has two other agreements that update the original- The North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation and The North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation . NAFTA encouraged a more than tripling of regional trade and cross-border investment
