
Ganesh Chaturthi is observed on the fourth day after the new moon in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. On this day, decorated statues of Lord Ganesha are installed in homes.
The festival extends over 10-12 days during which various prayers are offered and celebrations are held.
The last day of the festival, known as Anant Chaturdashi, the statue is taken through streets in a huge procession with lots of dancing and singing. The statue is then immersed in a river or sea popularly known as Ganesh Visarjan, symbolizing Lord's journey towards his abode in Kailash.
