The
success story of the infamous WALT DISNEY
All
our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.
Walter Elias ‘Walt’
Disney (born 5th Sept, 1901) was an American entrepreneur, animator,
voice actor and film producer. 4th
among five children he was born into a poor family who bounced from one place
to another in search of a living. At age
16 Disney dropped out of school to join the army but was rejected for being
underage instead he was accepted as a Red Cross ambulance driver.
Disney developed his
interest in drawing when he was paid to draw the horse of a retired
neighbourhood doctor. He quit his job as an apprentice artist at an art studio
to start his own commercial company Laugh-O-Gramwhich went bankrupt. Yet stopping was not an
option, he headed towards HOLLYWOOD.
On October 16, 1923 Disney along with
brother Roy O Disney formed the Disney Brothers Studio – which later became the
WALT DISNEY COMPANYcommonly known asDISNEY.
He started working on an animated character Mortimer Mouse. He renamed it to the
iconic MICKEY MOUSE on his wife’s suggestion. He later on went on to
build the theme park Disneyland and later widened it with Disney world.
There came troubled times when he had to mortgage his house
to create his first epic movie. Situations worsened when his studio went to the
war during the World War II and lost almost everything. Yet hope and desire to succeed was never lost
and the pain was worth it.
Today Walt Disney Co. is the 2nd largest media conglomerate in terms of revenue. As film
producer he received 22 Academy awards from 59 nominations and has won most
individual Oscars in the history ever. Half a century after Disney’s death,
Walt Disney World is still the most visited vacation destination ever having
about 52 million people visiting every year.
If you can dream it,
you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream
and a mouse.
