It was indeed a matter of privilege to
have Mr. Rohit Ranjan and
his team to
speak in front of us and share his views on the topic mind
too matters in matters of heart.
The demeanor in which he spoke, the confidence that he wore and his amazing sense of humor stood resolute with his background of having been graduated in Mathematics from BHU, Varanasi, earned an MBA from IIM, Bangalore and was in a prestigious job when he realized his passion and decided to delve into spirituality. Mr. Rohit Ranjan is a faculty with Art of Living since last 11 years.

Mr.
Rohit Ranjan has also been a university level chess player and therefore sees
everything logically and believes life to be like a game of chess. To win you have to make a move. Knowing
which move to make comes with in-sight
and knowledge, and by learning the lessons that are accumulated along the way. He stressed upon the importance of living in the moment. “Do not dwell in the past; do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” We are so filled with anxieties about the past and the future that we lack the emotional strength and mental clarity required to face present real life problems. We live regretting, we live dreaming but we do not live now, in this very moment. And that is where the deviation comes in. Marks in exams, friends, parties etc are just stations and not the final destination, he explained.
He elaborated that it is human tendency to trust negative emotions at once but doubt on positive. He illustrated that if someone complements you nine times and insults you just once, you would take the insult and not pay attention to the heartfelt complements the other person made for you. Why are we so ineffective in getting over our own petty feelings that we can’t take a positive comment at its face value?

The
things he told, everyone had heard before but the way he expressed himself was
what made a world of difference. He could completely relate to the students and
what he said did appeal. The examples he illustrated were moments that we all
experienced at one point of time. One such example that he quoted .We hear our
teachers and parents constantly saying “padhlo” but kaise padhna hai koi nahi
batata. We hear our parents saying “beta gussa mat karo” without realizing how
annoyed and iritated they are while saying this. He believes studies are
important, but the bridge between studies and values is not connected.
Now
the question is how to control the mind and keep it in the present position?
The answer to this lies in things like meditation, yoga, deep breathing
exercises and techniques which can be learnt and need enormous amount of
practice and patience.
The
ease and interaction of this talk enabled everyone to get an in-depth insight
on the topic. He indeed got everyone laughing including the teachers after
creating awareness about ourselves and he definitely left us convinced that the
mind does matter and there is a greater need to control the mind.
