The Commerce Association of JMC organsied an interactive
session ‘ Bonding with Illustrious Alumni’ on 12 February 2015. Aparna Bahl, a
leading fashion choreographer and boutique entrepreneur and a 1993 batch JMC
alumni graced the occasion.
The session started with a brief introduction of Ms. Bahl and
her works by our president. Which was followed by Ms. Aparna taking the stage.
She started with telling us about her journey- how from school itself she was
interested in creative things, with her interests lying in dance, hair and
makeup, etc but her true passion in choreography as it combines many aspects
and how JMC helped her in becoming who she is now, and mentioning some funny
college incidents. She founded the company, Preferred Professional with 2 of
her JMC friends, Anisha Bahl And Tania Lefebvre, which is a boutique company
that plans, produces and executes small and large sclae fashion shows, product
launches charity events and private functions.
She talked about her 1st show- how there was no
concept of backstage then, with their friends pitching in for help in various
aspects like music, management, etc. and
the end result was a great show with the best models. This was like her
launchpad and she moved on to the best designers of India like Rohit Khaana, JJ
Vallaya, Rohit Bal, Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahilliani and even international
brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Dior, Nautica to name a few.
After this, to give us a better perspective and an insight
into what exactly goes into a show, she showed a small presentation of a show
that her company had directed and produced for The 3C Company who wanted to
introduce their luxury apartments. She talked about how they came up with the
concept of depicting 4 seasons with each season being done by 4 different
designers who showcased their collection according to the theme. She then told
us the timeline- selecting designers for each season, making the sets and coordinating the music accordingly and other pre show hassles. Then coming to
a few days before the event itself, fittings kicking in, accessories being
decided, line up being chosen carefully, visualization, rehearsals, hair makeup
ironing and then the show itself.
This gave us a once in a lifetime opportunity to see what
goes behind making such glamorous shows, the hardwork, the stress, and what
not! She also shared with her past experience (some extremely funny ones too!).
The session ended with a Q & A segment with a variety of questions being
asked like what special skills are needed for getting into this industry, her
take on Indian v/s Western fashion shows, her inspiration, etc. A vote of
thanks by the VP followed.
Then, Ms. Bahl distributing the certificates for Com’Acumen
to all those who helped make it a huge success.
This was the first time the students of the Commerce
Association got the opportunity to interact with the alumni and learn about
such an offbeat field. It was highly informative, interesting and loved by all.
