JANAMASHTMI FROM THE EYE OF A MATHURAAWAASI
The grandeur of festival adds charm and happiness to lives. Nothing is better than a festival falling on Monday, and an extended weekend is a much awaited thing.
Krishna Janamashtmi is round the corner and for all my 18 years spent in Mathura, Janamashtmi is not just a festival for me, but an emotion! Seeing my city so dolled up, the streets full of stalls serving free food to thousands of devotees from all over the country, those positive vibes and the Radhey-Radhey chants and hymns in all mouths and ears.
The Krishna Janambhoomi, the palace of lord Krishna is adorned with glittering lights, aesthetic culture and blooming flowers all set up for welcoming lil’ Kanha. The crystal clear water reservoir behind the palace reflects the need of purity of heart and intent. The ceremony inside the palace and idol worship extends for hours and hours and in the middle of this one can feel those vibes and chants resonating inside the sanctum sanctorum, transcending into embellishing positivity.
Every house celebrates at midnight the birth of Lord Krishna with happiness and aspirations. Pampering the new born is a delight and joy to every member of the family. The neighbouring parts of Brij Bhoomi get absorbed into the joyous festivities. Every year I’ve witnessed Janamashtmi as not only an important festival but I’ve seen Mathura glowing upto a new aura.
Symbolically Janamashtmi signifies the birth of a new energy within us, an energy which makes us realise the importance of humanity. It shows us the way to make our lives enjoyable like Kanhaiya and our way towards a wiser and intellectual being.
