UNIFIED PAYMENTS INTERFACE WILL GO LIVE FOR CUSTOMERS WITH
TWENTY ONE BANKS
UPI lets a recipient initiate payment requests from a smart phone
and was under a pilot run since being launched in April by the RBI governor,
Raghuram Rajan.
The UPI apps of banks will be available on the Google play
store within a couple of days. After the pilot run the RBI has approved the
public launch of UPI. Customers will download the apps and link them with their
bank accounts for making transactions.
This is another step towards a cashless economy.
