An International Conference on Social Media Marketing: Opportunities & Challenges was organised by the Department of Commerce, Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi, on 28th and 29th March, 2019.
The conference was attended by a number of speakers and chief guests. Some of the attendees on the first day were Hon’ble Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Former Chief Minister of Delhi; Her Excellency Joanna Kempkers, High Commissioner, New Zealand High Commission; Justice Mukul Mudgal, Chairperson, Governance Committee and Review Committee, FIFA and Dr. Bertrand de Hartingh, Counsellor for Education, Science and Culture at the Embassy of France in India
On the second day, the special guests were Prof. Dinesh Singh, Chancellor, K.R. Mangalam University and Former VC of University of Delhi and Ms. Dora Bertucci, Community Leader Airbnb, Italy.
The event was also attended by Professors from Sweden; Professors of different universities in India; Directors, CEOs and Founders of various Companies; Superintendent, Customs and GST; Joint Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India and many more.
The event commenced with Dr. Sunita Kaistha and Dr. Rekha Dayal, Convenors of the Conference welcoming the esteemed guests and the students to the Conference.
The chief guests were called for the lighting of the lamp and the Abstract Book was released by the Academic Committee as well as the book, Women’s Working World – A Mirror to their World by Ms. Amita Sahaya, Founder Secretary, Women Work & Health Initiative.
Sr. (Dr.) Rosily T.L. r.j.m, Principal, Jesus and Mary College and Dr. Jyotsna Sethi, Teacher-In charge, Department of Commerce, Jesus and Mary College also addressed the gathering.
The event found the students as participants in various sessions and as enthralled listeners to the speakers. Students and Teachers alike were volunteering for the smooth functioning of the event. The event was also reported by the students.
A number of events took place like a Cultural Programme, a Debates and Dialogues Session, a Round Table Conference, a Master Class, an Art Exhibition, a Career Fair, a Cyber Security Workshop, a Social Media Campaign Designing Competition, a few Technical and Plenary Sessions and Papers were Presented by Students and Professors alike.
The sessions were on topics Social Media, a new age communication tool, tool for empowerment, generating community awareness on health issues, intrusion and privacy, economics of social media and on outcomes and effects of social activism.
The papers presented covered varying topics like Social Media Communication Mix on improving brand image, Paradigm shift in social media marketing, impact on consumer buying behaviour, online advertising, digital democracy, politics in online spaces, internet trolling, women empowerment, Indian sports journalism and on online banking industry.
The event culminated with a Valedictory Session followed by a Musical Evening where The Anirudh Varma Collective and a Korean Band performed, winning the hearts of many with their exemplary performances.
