T’WAS THE LAST CHRISTMAS, THE DAY OF MUSIC’S DEMISE
Yet another
legend has left for his heavenly abode. Just when 2016 was about to end and one
was certain that the year won’t bamboozle anymore after the appalling loss of
legends like David Bowie, Prince, Glen Frey and Leonard Cohen -here comes the gut-wrenching
news of the demise of yet another legend. Bidding Adieu to GEORGE MICHAEL-may your soul Rest in Peace. The irony being real, it
was his Last Christmas. Christmas won’t be the same again. It will be a
constant nagging of the loss of a phenomenon, one of the best selling artists
of all time, a teenage heartthrob, singer, songwriter and producer.
He was a
British pop star, who rose to fame with his band Wham! He was born as Georgias Kyriacos Panayiotou
to a Greek Cypriot father and English mother on 25 June, 1963 in
London. He formed a boy band Wham! Along with Andrew Ridgeley in 1981. Their
élan, pizzazz, and spirits captured the hearts of the people making them one of
Britain’s biggest Pop Acts. In 1985, Wham! Became the first ever western band
to play in China. Later on he commenced a solo career. His first solo album
Faith was released in 1987. He opted for a change in his style, donning a
leather jacket, stubble and an earring which became his iconic style. The album
sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Some of his biggest hits include
Last Christmas, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Careless Whisper and Freedom!’90
selling over 100 million records in a career spanning nearly four decades.
He was
ranked as the 40th most successful artist ever by Billboard
magazine. He has been a recipient of a string of awards including three Brit
awards, Best British male twice, four MTV VMAs and two Grammy Awards out of
eight nominations. He was also named as the most played artist on British Radio
during the period of 1984-2004.

fundraiser.
Michael at
the age of 53 was found dead in his bed by his partner Fadi Fawaz in the early
morning of 25th December. The cause is believed to be heart failure.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm our beloved son, brother and friend
George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.” Read the
statement issued by his publicist. The legend has left us on his last Christmas
but he will never be forgotten. He will be alive in the hearts of all those he
inspired, the ones he continues to inspire and the music fraternity. His words,
his voice, his music shall live forever. All that lives must die, passing
through nature to eternity. Farewell to George Michael, Farewell! He’ll be
remembered. He’ll always be missed, a void that’ll never be filled.
