An internship makes the classroom’s abstract theories concrete by placing students in a real life work situations with co-workers where they have to perform actual professional tasks which a job carries.
Doing an internship gives us a glimpse of the world outside of college and prepares us to face the real life mental pressures which await us in corporate system; besides,internships also enable a student to gain experience and a sense of independence and helps him to apply his theoretical knowledge with a blend of creativity.
 Some of the prominent areas wherein you can find internships are:
1. Sales and marketing: If you are articulate and like to interact with new people, a sales/marketing internship is your ticket to get a first-hand experience of the business world; it improves your confidence and enhances your convincing power, which increases your chances of claiming the title of sponsorship head during your college fest; this is also the best way of honing your soft skills and preparing yourself for the opportunities which await you in life.
2. Content writing: If you are fond of reading books and enjoy penning down your emotions and thoughts then you must consider content writing internships that put your knowledge, creativity and fluency to test. A lot of students who were editors of their school magazine or independent bloggers have pursued this profession seriously. A content writing internship further provides you the chance to whet your writing skills while getting paid for it; additionally those with a flair for writing, get jobs easily in the media industry.

Important considerations while applying for an internship:
-Pay close attention to the job description and make sure you will be doing meaningful work with a professional mentor, if the description is unclear, communicate and get more information.
-Do not apply to an internship that you are sure you will not accept.
-Be sure to check if an internship is ‘virtual’ or ‘in person’.
-Pay close attention to the location of the internship and make sure you are able and willing to find housing and transportation as per your requirements.
-Ask about learning opportunities that you will be offered and what professional skills and tools you will develop during the internship.
-Make sure you research well about the company that you are applying to.
