Rightly is it said “Age is just a number.” Mark Zuckerberg was only 12 when he started to learn programming and while only a sophomore in Harvard University, he launched Facebook from his dormitory. Facebook is today the biggest social networking website in the world. Currently, at the age of only 31, Mark Zuckerberg has a net worth of US$ 51.2 Billion. As of 2016, Zuckerberg has been ranked the 6th richest person in the world and among the 100 most influential people in the world.
Known as the programming prodigy in his college, Zuckerberg initiated the idea of Facebook from the college student books which had names and pictures of all the students. Initially he created a different program called Facemash that let students select the best looking person from a choice of photos. This was created a s a just for fun website as claimed by his roommate. The site’s popularity went up across campuses within a week of its launch. To complete his project Zuckerberg dropped out of college in the sophomore year. In a conversation with a magazine interviewer in January 2014, Zuckerberg recalled:
“I remember really vividly, you know, having pizza with my friends a day or two after—I opened up the first version of Facebook at the time I thought, "You know, someone needs to build a service like this for the world." But I just never thought that we'd be the ones to help do it. And I think a lot of what it comes down to is we just cared more.”
After this Zuckerberg moved to Palo Alto with his friends and they leased a small house that served as an office. Over the summer Zuckerberg met Peter Thiel who invested in the company. The founder and CEO believes Facebook is not a waste of time because it facilitates social engagement, and participating in a public session was so that he could "learn how to better serve the community". Zuckerberg receives a one-dollar salary as CEO of Facebook.
Once launched, the stocks of Facebook continued to shoot up and defying all the barriers of age, Mark Zuckerberg proved that a brilliant idea and it’s execution is the stepping stone to success.
