DIWALI- A FESTIVAL OF SELF-REALISATION
Diwali, the festival of lights, love and happiness is once again being celebrated with great vigour and devotion. A national favorite, this festival is filled with sweets, meet and greet, and traditions.
Mythology says, in the honour of Rama’s home arrival, the people of Ayodhya decorated the kingdom with Diyas. Symbolically, Diyas were lit to dispel the darkness of gloom, inequality and despair because Rama, the flag bearer of truth, hope and love had arrived. Although this practice of diya lighting is still prevalent, but somehow, the deep meaning is lost somewhere. Materialistic attitudes and extravagant celebrations have taken over the nobility of the occasion.
Diwali is an occasion to reflect upon ourselves and acknowledge the positivity within. Most people today look at their reflection and scowl. A smile can do wonders for our face, and genuine happiness can do wonders for our soul. And, it's not difficult to find. It is lurking beneath the surface, just waiting to be discovered.
This can be achieved when we realize that everything need not be perfect. Perfection takes away the beauty of the flaw that makes us who we are, that part of us that we need to learn to build around. It's the way that we react and learn to live with said flaw that makes us who we are.
Embracing oneself is the toughest thing to master. Falling in love with oneself is the key to a dream life. We all have demons inside us. Every heart holds two wolves. One is the white wolf, who is made up of love, kindness, respect, decency, compassion, and all the things that are good in life. The black wolf is born of jealousy, hatred, pettiness, prejudice, vindictiveness, and all the poisons of the human personality. The two constantly war with each other for dominance. However, one of these needn’t necessarily win.
What's important is that people once again learn to live with compassion. The real message of Diwali is to dispel the inner darkness which has engulfed us for thousands of life times. One should resolve to live a loving, peaceful and spiritual life. It’s never too late to start afresh and make a new beginning. We need to light a Diya within us, the Diya of wisdom, truth and knowledge. Only then will we be able to capture the real spirit of Diwali and cherish it for years to come.
