It was the only right to have Professor J.P. Sharma delivering the students a 60 minutes lecture on Makar Sankranti Day or in other words the New Year’s Day according to the Hindu Solar Calendar.
It was the only right to have Professor J.P. Sharma delivering the students a 60 minutes lecture on Makar Sankranti Day or in other words the New Year’s Day according to the Hindu Solar Calendar.
The MPH full
of students much eager and enthusiastic to have been able to get an opportunity
to be upskilled by the Head of the Department of Commerce himself and that too
on the topic he specializes in i.e. Corporate
Governance was highly thought of.
Books can
impart knowledge to the extent of words printed in it, while having a one to
one live lecture can and did provide the students in depth knowledge, about the
real life situations, as the Professor shared a few of his learnings about the
history of Corporate Entities.
Beginning
the lecture by briefing the students about the general issues faced by
corporate entities and moving on further to specific Case Studies of entities
like Enron, World.com, Maxwell Communications. As the Professor was still
studying cases of Kingfisher and Sahara, he could not reveal the facts therein.
But later relating the issues to the need for code and conducts and explaining
the basis of good governance concluded to wholesome concept of Corporate
Governance, which could not have been better explained.
It was
rather interesting to know the reason as to why even when the biggest tycoons at a point of time failed yet the Indian
Companies managed to survive with minimal damage. It was and still is the
emotional attachment towards the entities that majorly that rescued us.
As much as
all the students gained, I believe it was the erstwhile FYUP batch, having
Corporate Governance as their main subject, who benefited the most out of the
lecture. As not only the part of their Curriculum was discussed like Satyam
Case but also other similar Cases and studies, which could help understand the
subject in a better way.
It was thus
indeed a pleasure to have Professor Sharma enlightening the students with his
immense knowledge.
